Spices & Screens: A Digital Love Story with KFC Kenya

Updated: Feb 5, 2024

Let's start at the very beginning. My very first job in the world of agency was as a media buying intern. I was essentially hired to help with the buying of advertising space online (that's basically what media buying is). It was nothing like I had studied in my marketing degree but we made it work.

A few reports and breakdowns later, I discovered that I'm quite good at storytelling, and this skill could be used to help brands tell their story. My very first brand was KFC Kenya, it had just entered the Kenyan market and we were tasked to localize the content and create the brand identity.

It was an extremely fun brand to work on, and as the content creator, copywriter and social media manager, I got to watch this page grow and I got to experiment a lot with the content direction. I got to collaborate with insanely talented art directors to bring the visuals to life. KFC Kenya was my baby, and I got to build my love for all things social media with this brand.

From new product offerings to store launches to influencer collaborations, KFC taught me so much. I even got to be featured in one of the ads 😅 (see below)

Some of my most memorable campaigns include:

KFC Lunchtime Remix:

I'll conclude this post by saying that no matter how much you think you know about digital marketing, there's still so much to be learned. In my 7 years in this industry, so much has changed: platforms have evolved, others have died off, social media has grown into a multi-billion industry, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon. I am so glad to be doing what I do, and it's all thanks to my first, KFC.

Until next time, stay creative.
